Characteristics of Non-Self, SN 22.59 with Kirsten Jones
————————————————————————————————————————————————
In the video featured below, TWIM instructor Kirsten Jones presents a reading and discussion of Non-Self” (Anattā-lakkhaṇa Sutta) from the Pāli Canon. In it, the Buddha explains how the five aggregates—form, feeling, perception, volitional formations, and consciousness—are not self because they are impermanent and subject to change.
Kirsten analyzes how meditators can observe these processes directly in meditation. When the aggregates are seen clearly as impersonal phenomena, attachment weakens and the mind becomes freer from identification with “I” or “mine.” She connects the sutta with practical TWIM meditation, showing how mindfulness, relaxation, and gentle awareness support insight into the nature of experience.
The reading and anlaysi is followed by group discussion about how deeper understanding of non-self supports insight leading to wisdom and liberation.
