Scott A. Jordan

I studied and practiced various methods with leading teachers for nearly forty years but was dissatisfied with the results. I gradually discovered that all of the prominent forms of Buddhism inherited cultural modifications that diverged from the original meditation methods described in the Suttas. Finding a meditation method that reflected what I read took many years of trial and error that was motivated by hope but gradually ended in disappointment.
In 2009, I discovered Tranquil Wisdom Insight Meditation (TWIM). It revealed an unforced, joyful meditation practice that exceeded my long quest and what I had read what deep meditation experiences should be. What I found was infinite relief along with profound contentment beyond my wildest expectations. TWIM became the inspiration and motivation to help others along the path and discover for themselves.

Temporary Ordination

It was great honor to temporarily ordain as a Sāmaṇera (novice monk) in 2019 mentored by my friend and teacher the late Venerable Bhante Vimalaramsi. Having had decades of meditation, study and training, the brief induction into the Buddhist sangha—monastic community was joyful and memorable. My enduring gratitude goes to him and the teachers that illuminated the path for me. These remarkable and saintly beings also include; Bhante Madawela Punnaji who advised Bhante to investigate Suttas in the Pali Canon. There he discovered the threads of wisdom that would be woven into the fabric of TWIM.
It was Venerable Sayadaw U Silananda who taught Bhante and myself abhidhamma and encouraged us to ordain. He maintained that ordination of monks and nuns would truly signify the Buddahism had taken root in the West. With enduring graditude, I am also grateful to Sujata, Anagarika Shri Munindra, Dipa Ma Barua, and esteemed lay teachers for their tireless teaching Dhamma and wise guidance. Their embodiment of the Buddha’s path made ordination possible.
