Guided meditation and Dhamma talk explores the Buddha’s teaching in Lump of Foam sutta (SN 22.95)
————————————————————————————————————————————————
In this video, the Lump of Foam sutta reveals how the five aggregates—form, feeling, perception, volitional formations, and consciousness—are empty of a permanent self. First, the simile of foam shows that the body constantly changes and lacks a fixed essence. Next, bubbles, mirages, banana trees, and magical illusions illustrate how feelings, perceptions, intentions, and consciousness arise and pass away. Therefore, clinging to them creates suffering. Through mindful investigation and TWIM-style loving-kindness meditation, practitioners learn to observe experience directly without proliferation.
As insight deepens, ignorance fades and disenchantment replaces attachment. Consequently, the mind becomes dispassionate and free. This session with Kirsten Jones combines sutta study, discussion, and meditation to help experienced meditators see impermanence, not-self, and unsatisfactoriness clearly. It supports practical insight into dependent arising and encourages letting go through calm awareness and compassion. In conclusion, the reading is followed by an open discussion adding clarity how it applies to meditation practice.
