TWIM

Scott A. Jordan

I studied and practiced various methods with leading teachers for nearly forty years but was dissatisfied with the results. I gradually discovered that all of the prominent forms of Buddhism inherited cultural modifications that diverged from the original meditation methods taught by the Buddha. Finding a meditation method that reflected what I read in the Buddha’s teachings took many years of trial and error, hope, and disappointment.

In 2009, I discovered what was called TWIM. It revealed an unforced, joyful meditation that was conducive to my lifelong quest. I found it led to deep relief and ptofound contentment. It has motivated me to dedicate time and attention to helping others along the same path

It was great honor to temporarily ordain as a Sāmaṇera (novice monk) in 2019 by my teacher and friend the late Venerable Bhante Vimalaramsi. Having had decades of meditation study and training, the brief induction into the Buddhist sangha—monastic community—was joyful and memorable. My enduring gratitude goes to him and the teachers that illuminated the path for me and others. These remarkable and saintly beings include  Bhante Madawela Punnaji who advised Bhante to investigate the suttas in the Pali Canon where he discovered the threads of wisdom that would be woven into the fabric of TWIM practice. It was Venerable Sayadaw U Silananda who taught us abhidhamma and encouraged us to ordain. With enduring graditude, I am especially grateful to Anagarika Shri Munindra, Dipa Ma Barua, and esteemed lay teachers for there tireless instruction and deep wisdom. Their embodiment of the Buddha’s teachings made this ordination and high honor possible.

With this as a backdrop, It is increasing clear that that the Buddha’s Dhamma has taken root in the West.

Sadhu. Sadhu, Sadhu.
