Experienced instructors are there to guide you to maximize your potential to progress in the stages of meditation. They have been mentored and certified by Bhante Vimalaramsi, the American Buddhist monk that founded TWIM.

What you will need . . .

  1. A quiet, comfortable, and distraction-free space for seated practice on a chair or pillow
  2. A safe nearby indoor or outdoor area for short periods of walking meditation used in combination with seated practice
  3. A reliable internet connection for Zoom meetings
  4. An open schedule with little to no obligations for the retreat
  5. If possible, have meals prepared ahead of time to heat and eat
  6. Arrive rested with a clear mind and open heart
  7. Practice TWIM exclusively without changing the skills that your will be given to practice.
  8.  Ask questions about the method and how to apply it though out the retreat

Group meeting offer instructions, discussion, and Q&A.

Meet with your group

Group meetings will provide detailed instructions practice key TWIM principles. There will be group meetings on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, with one-on-one private instruction following group calls. Exact times will be provided prior to the start of the retreats.

Topics include:

  • Introduction to the TWIM practice 
  • How to deal with meditation distractions 
  • Meetings include Q&A for skill development, analysis, commentary, and group discussion.
Interviews are conducted one-on-one privately with your instructor.

Personal private interviews

Progress in meditation is dynamic. Private one-on-one interviews with your instructor provides specific actionable feedback to facilitate your meditation practice.  Interviews will be held after the group call, exacts times will be scheduled in advance. 

These interviews provide personal guidance to address your specific needs and circumstances. Your feedback will inform your instructor how to optimize your meditation practice.

  • Report your experiences and receive feedback and guidance on how to continue your practice
  • Identify particular concerns or recurring barriers and what to do next
  • Ask questions that may arise during the retreat 

What you will learn

  • How to use the practice of Loving-kindness as a primary object or home base in meditation. 

  • Devleop joyful feelings that are key to experiencing progress in meditation

  • Learning and using the Six Rs — a primary skill to to effectively deal with distractions

  • How to use TWIM outside formal seated practice in daily life. 

  • Develop knowledge about the cause of conditions for effective meditaton with an emphasis on practice and direct experience. 

I was honestly quite surprised by how deep I was able to go in such a short period of time.

Payments and Refunds

This retreat is hosted by Tranquil Wisdom Insight Meditation, a California 501c3 non-profit charitable organization. Instructors and the teachings are offered freely, by unpaid volunteers, as a service to the community. 

The one-time $25 fee helps to cover administrative and direct expenses. 

  1. If the retreat is cancelled for reasons beyond our control, payments made will be refunded.
  2. Cancellations less than 14 days before the retreat are not refundable. Unused registration fees may be applied toward the registration fees for future 3-Day Retreats for up to six months following the cancellation. Unused registration fees may be donated if desired.
