TWIM

Cori Barker

I was, as it were, raised a bit unmoored in the religious and spiritual front. I read a lot of science fiction and fantasy growing up, so no shortage of ideas and fantasies about what is going on and who’s running the show. But I loved to work with computers and technology, and didn’t find much interest in such topics for most of my life.

There has always been a sense of something, though; while “maturity” took its toll, I never lost the memory of a few rare occasions where, as a child, I was . . . just happy.

Then one day, thanks to Huston Smith’s kind and clear description of the Buddha (and other religious figures) in his book “The World’s Religions” and https://ancient-buddhist-texts.net’s English translations of the Suttas, I found myself catapulted into this meditation party! The joy (and self-less sheer panic) was enough to send me searching for what would eventually lead me to simply Google “who teaches from the original suttas” and then to the fine works of Mr. Doug Kraft. A bodhisattva is born!

8 years into this practice and apparently I’m guiding retreats and making videos. 🙂

Bio

As a massage therapist, engineer and meditation monkey, Cori has found that much of his life has placed him in more than one camp. His first formal education was as an electrical engineer and though he has parted ways with that work, perhaps permanently, much of what he learned still informs his life: he manages his business’s website, email and CRM, develops software in Python and has been an avid Linux user for over 20 years now.

But the stress of the engineering world took its toll and in 2014 he quit his burgeoning career, took a year off and then went to massage therapy school. With a much more wholesome, yet still quite profitable, career path laid out for him, he cautiously explored the wide, wild world of crystals, mysticism, self-care and awakening. In 2017, he found his meditation with Tranquil Wisdom Insight and has been an avid “sitter” ever since.

With the flexibility and compassion that the “Teflon” mind of the TWIM practice develops as well as his time spent in the worlds of hard thought, gentle self-care and the down-to-earth experiences of ranch life, Cori finds it simple to connect with those who are seeking relief wherever they currently are. His metaphors are a treat to behold! Sign up for a fun and eye-opening retreat with him today, tickets are going fast. 🙂
